Doctor NortonDr. Norton and Electra (Frankford Crest Animal Hospital's number one feline companion)

Dr. Michael Norton was born and raised in Laredo, Texas before attending Texas A& M University in 1968. He was accepted to the College of Veterinary Medicine in College Station, Texas in 1970 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Science in 1972 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1973.

He moved to Dallas immediately upon graduation and worked for Hines North Animal Hospital from 1973-1974. He opened his first hospital, Coit Valley Animal Hospital in 1975 and practiced there until 1998. He then opened Frankford Crest Animal Hospital in 1998 and split his time between the two practices until merging them in September, 2001. He’s been at Frankford Crest Animal Hospital full-time since.

Dr. Norton married Libbie in 1972. His son, Charles, was born 1974, followed by his daughter, Marcie, in 1976. Charles is a Chartered Financial Analyst and founding member of GNI Capital with offices in New York and Dallas. Marcie is an attorney practicing in a California law firm.

Dr. Norton’s professional interests include internal medicine, feline medicine and pediatrics. His pets include three adopted stray cats named Baby, Cookie and Tiger. His hobbies include Macintosh computers, movie trivia and graphic design. Most of the client aids, ads and handouts we use were designed by him.

Dr. Norton belongs to following professional organizations:

  • American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)
  • American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP)
  • Cornell Feline Health Center
  • American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
  • Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA)
  • Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association (DCVMA)

Kendall Nichols – Receptionist: Has many rescue pets at her AND her mother's house. Used to volunteer at several animal rescue groups. Hobbies are TV shows, movies, and worrying about her pets. Loves to hear from our clients.

Charles Somers – Pet Care Specialist: Enjoys spending countless hours nurturing and loving on animals of any kind, even the not so nice ones! Charles has only been in the vet field about one year but has enjoyed the company of many dogs and cats alike in the past, present and, I’m sure, the future!

New Addition MidnightMidnight-Newest Addition, assistant Chief Pet Cat to Yes-A-Man. Just as mischievous as his ‘BIG’ Brother.

Midnight’s unfortunate story:

Now 100% INDOORS at Frankford Crest since his extremely unfortunate adventure. He was previously an indoor/outdoor cat that was severely hurt in some unknown fashion. All we do know is that his lower back is fractured and nerve, bladder and colon functions are not normal. He was due to be euthanized after having endured long, expensive days and nights of treatment required for his health. But fortunately, he found a loving home at a vet hospital to make his own. He is now living a much safer life indoors even though he still has to have his bladder squeezed several times a day for the rest of his life. (This is a good example of why you should never let you cat be an indoor/outdoor pet!)

The Story of ‘Yes-A-Man’:

On a cold wintry day in November 1995, Dr. Norton received a frantic call from his wife who saw a litter of kittens and mother playing on the corner of a very busy intersection in North Dallas. She was worried they would be hit by a car and killed. The two tried for two weeks to humanely capture the litter of four black male kittens and one black mother. They managed to capture three of the kittens but the mother and one kitten eluded them. They temporarily gave up thinking the task impossible due to the ‘street smarts’ of the pair. When freezing weather began in December, they redoubled their efforts and after several days of trying, finally captured the remaining black kitten. The exhilaration of the moment caused Dr. Norton to blurt out ‘Yes!’ They decided to call the kitten ‘Yes’. Confusion over the kitten’s name versus the answer to questions caused it to be quickly changed to ‘Yes-A-Man’. He’s lived with Dr. Norton and ruled both offices since 1995. Dr. Norton can easily say that Yes-A-Man is the smartest cat he’s seen in over 31 years of practice.

Electra’s Electrifying Experience’

One day in July 1996, Dr. Norton’s staff asked him if they could adopt the stray young cat that had been living in the outdoor electrical closet at Coit Valley Animal Hospital for several weeks. It seems she had managed to squeeze under the plenum of the outside door at will and was living in the darkened room. Though she’d been there several weeks, Dr. Norton remained clueless as to her existence. She had been surviving by scavenging what she could in the neighborhood and seeking daily shelter in the dark, circuit breaker-filled storage closet. Being a cat lover, Dr. Norton quickly agreed to adoption and Electra joined her new home. She’s been a sweet, loving pet of Coit Valley and Frankford Crest Animal Hospital’s ever since.
